I’m a geek who wears a propeller hat whenever possible. Having spent the last 10 years studying software devel0pment, digital marketing and online behavioral habits, I fancy myself as a bit of an expert. Unlike most, my idea of an exciting evening is chatting about web stats, new technology and software development processes over a Chai Tea Latte – non fat if you’re buying. My business is not work it’s a passion.
In 2000 I realized that 15 years experience in sales and marketing along with a degree in Geochemistry doesn’t really carry any weight in the IT world. At that time the .com bubble was still expanding so I decided to go back to university and advance my skill set in the world of Object Oriented Software Technologies program from the University of Calgary.
Trained in Java and .Net I ventured out into the software world determined to be the Albert Einstein of application development. I joined a team of developers at Nova IT who had been tasked with an extremely complex financial system build for a small banking company. After tens of thousands of lines of code I realized that my flare for marketing combined with my Einstein skills were a perfect match for the world of digital marketing. Pumped to be a pioneer in a newly evolving business I jumped ship on the hard core programming and joined Extreme Group, an internationally recognized creative force in the advertising business. While at Extreme I had an moment of clarity. I realized the future of advertising was online.
Since that moment the world of Digital Marketing has generated tons of interesting business opportunities. In 2003 when I first starting working in the space it was sometimes difficult to convince clients to include the web in their campaigns. Six years later and billions of dollarsĀ invested, marketers are reinventing how they communicate with their audiences. Much like TV in the 60′s, new media is an infant growing into its own body. As a passionate follower, I enjoy everyday of its growth. The only thing that bores me is the moment between the latest idea and the next innovation.
As a Digital Marketing Consultant my focus is on helping my clients learn how to use online innovation to communicate with their audience in a cost effective, result-oriented manner. I’m a one man show with a landry list of skills. When I can’t solve a problem I have a shopping list of people who I can rely upon for the answers.
